5 reasons to start a blog

If you’ve ever wondered about the benefits of having a blog on your website, you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed – where do you start? Does this stuff really work?

I’m here to tell you that it absolutely does – there are so many reasons why you should start blogging for your business, no matter if you’re a small one-man (or woman!) operation, or you already have a team of employees around you.

The truth is, every type and size of business can start a blog – and here are just 5 reasons why you should…

1. It's cheap

If you’ve already got a website, then adding a blog page to it is really simple – and in many cases costs little to nothing, especially if you have designed the site yourself. If you have a website design agency who took care of the design and hosting etc. then it shouldn’t be too much hassle for them to add a blog page to your existing site. They may also be able to offer you some training on how to update it when you’re ready to start writing your own posts.

2. It's simple to maintain

You have complete control over what gets published on your blog, and it can be updated very quickly and easily. The hardest part is knowing what to write!

But once you have your post ready, it’s just a matter of entering the text into the editing page, and hitting publish!

3. It's personal

Unlike your website, a blog is more like a personal note to your customers from you. It’s your opportunity to let them know there’s a real human behind your brand – you can use it to update them about your own thoughts and opinions about what’s going on in your business, in your industry, and give them advice, help, and guidance that will offer them real value.

If you recognise the same questions coming up time and time again, your blog can be a place to answer those more comprehensively than you could normally.

4. It's instant

The very moment that you hit 'publish', your post is live. If you’ve got something to say – news of a new product or service, an opinion on a fresh news subject, or an update on something that happening in your industry right now, you can get it out there in minutes!

5. It promotes interaction

A blog allows your customers to comment on what you post. It's a great way to keep up with what your customers are thinking and saying about you, and enables you to respond directly.

It’s also great practice to use social media to get the conversation flowing – you can share the link to your blog post, write social posts from it, and ask people’s opinions on the subject.
